Bad Credit Ranking – Three Groups You Simply Cannot Avoid

If you have a bad credit ranking you will no doubt be dealing with a string of people phoning you and knocking on your door to get money from you. There are usually three main groups that you will have to face, and it is a good idea to get to know the right things to say to them and the right things to do to ensure your financial future is stable.

Creditors

Your creditors are the companies that you owe money to. You may have a number of different creditors depending on what sort of debt you have racked up. This can often be an administrative nightmare, as you have to keep track of whom you have and haven’t paid yet. If you are able to, or in future, try to get one credit account so that you will only have to deal with one creditor. In the meantime try to make payments to them regularly, even if it is less than the amount you have usually been able to pay. This helps keep them away from the idea of legal action in order to get you to pay.

Credit bureaus

A credit bureau’s job is to collect information from your various creditors and compile a credit report. This is what counts towards your credit ranking. It details things like how much you have owed, late payments, missed payments, and legal action taken against you. The one clear flaw in this system is that the information isn’t always correct and at times you can end up with a bad credit ranking under false pretences. You are entitled to a free copy of your credit report and you can voice any mistakes you have found in order to make sure your report remains accurate.

Collectors

After the creditors have contacted you and tried to get you to pay them off, they eventually refer the matter to collecting agencies, who then takeover the role of getting their money back. Under the law they are not allowed to harass you to try and get you to pay off your debt. While they are there for your money, many of them are also able to provide you with deals and discounts to make paying easier for you. This will ensure that your credit ranking takes as little a knock as possible so you won't have problems lending money in the future, should you need to do so.
